This past year has been very busy for me and difficult for me to dedicate as much time as I would like to my writing. Luckily, I have once more found balance and am able to focus on my writing. I am excited to announce that I have once again entered the NYC Midnight Flash Fiction Challenge and round 1 is complete. The prompts for my 1000 word, 48 hours short story were - Genre: Ghost Story, Location: Diner Car, Object: Diamond. I resonated with the prompts and had a lot of fun writing this piece. Finding a new book to read can be difficult, so each year my wife and I compose a reading challenge. The list is compiled of old books, new books, and books you should have read. It is a fun way to open yourself to new ideas and fantastic stories.
For example, Read a book... … that was written 100 years ago. … that you were supposed to read in high school, but didn't. … that was published in 2018/2019.

To put it simply, writing can be hard. Ideas can be as fleeting as a hummingbird's sneeze in a windstorm. Many have created ways to combat this problem (fleeting ideas, not sneezing hummingbirds), one of which is Rory's Story Cubes. You simply throw the dice and create a story off the images rolled. You can make it as tough or a simple as you like. These dice have led me to create my own weekly creative writing inspiration, Story Cube Fridays. Follow @thecalmscribe on Twitter and Instagram and watch for hashtag #StoryCubeFridays to participate. Each Friday I post a photo of the roll of the week. The following Monday I post my official micro-story and encourage you to post yours, Remember, this is all in fun and there is no pressure to share your creations, though all are welcome! Be sure to follow The Calm Scribe on social media for breaking updates, quotes and stories not available anywhere else, and of course, the daily brain warm up, the Lit Quiz. Get your weekly dose of inspiration with Story Cube Friday's, on Instagram and Twitter.
Each month I send out a behind the scenes update. The newsletters consist of upcoming events, stories, exciting news, and occasionally a guest writer. This is a great way to keep up to date on all the latest news.
