To put it simply, writing can be challenging. Ideas can be as fleeting as a hummingbird's sneeze in a windstorm. Many have created ways to combat this problem (fleeting ideas, not sneezing hummingbirds), including Rory's Story Cubes. For several years I have been using Rory's Story Cubes on social media, and more recently on Twitch, to create weekly micro-stories and inspire others to do the same. Friday, March 5, marks the 156th story or three years worth of weekly story cube creativity. Join us for a very special edition of Story Cube Fridays as we roll 27 dice instead of the regular 9 and create 450-word micro-stories. Open to everyone, writers, non-writers, and dreamers. There have been a lot of exciting website updates. As always, you are welcome to take your time, browse, and explore, but for those who like to a little more direct, here is a list of current changes to check out!
What's new? Writer's Tools - A list of tools to help your writing, like Plottr, the program when it comes to plotting your stories or your series. Twitch Streaming - The Calm Scribe Live! Story Cube Submissions - Read the weekly Story Cube Fridays submissions. Don't forget you can also take part!
Finding a new book to read can be difficult, so each year my wife and I compose a reading challenge. The list is compiled of old books, new books, and books you should have read. It is a fun way to open yourself to new ideas and fantastic stories.
For example, Read a book... … that is an author's debut novel. … that you were supposed to read in school, but didn't. … that is a historical fiction.

Through the challenges of the past year, I was able to focus and dedicate more time to my writing. From published editorial works to the beginning of a new novel, it has been a full year with contests included. I participated in the NYC Midnight Flash Fiction Challenge, and have now enter the NYC Midnight Micro Fiction Challenge. The prompts for my 250 word, 24 hours micro fiction were - Genre: Romance, Action: Tour, Word: Target. The story is not long, but packs an emotional punch. Be sure to follow The Calm Scribe on social media for breaking updates, quotes and stories not available anywhere else, and of course, the daily brain warm up, the Lit Quiz. Get your weekly dose of inspiration with Story Cube Friday's, on Instagram and Twitter.
Each month I send out a behind the scenes update. The newsletters consist of upcoming events, stories, exciting news, and occasionally a guest writer. This is a great way to keep up to date on all the latest news.
