What is a test reader?
A test reader is just as it sounds, a volunteer who reads unpublished work and gives their point of view on the piece. This does not entail editing, proofing, or any other type of clerical work. It merely entails reading the piece and answering a few brief questions, such as: Did you enjoy reading this piece and is it interesting? Did you find any boring or redundant places? Did the story keep you engaged from start to finish? Do you have any feedback or suggestions? Should the story be shelved and reworked at a later date? Do you think there would be a good response to the story? Would you recommend it to your friends?
Due to the nature of the role, it is only open to people that are avid readers and feel they know what makes a good story. Preference will be given to those who have a varied and diverse range of reading interests, yet there may be subcategories set up for people who are passionate about a specific genre, such as horror/thriller, at a later time.
Beta reads are story that are being developed and feedback is needed, while Alpha reads are stories that are close to being published and need a final opinion. These stories have not been published and are not public, therefore test readers will be expected to maintain a high level of confidentiality.
Successful candidates will be notified by email. Thank you for your interest.
